Unforgettable 30 days in BIIP--- Stories for practices

Written by Bianca (Zhou Keying), The Chinese University of Hong Kong

The "Incentive Scheme for Employment and Development in China" is a summer activity held by the Chinese University of Hong Kong to provide working and practice opportunities for undergraduate students. It has been seven years since the initiation of this scheme. Each year, more than 100 students will be sent to Beijing or Shanghai for a one-month-long practice. In this May, I, a sophomore majored in Business Administration, was fortunate enough to get this rare opportunity to practice in Beijing's China International Industry & Commerce Co., Ltd(CIIC).

My first impression of CIIC was a large resource distribution and integration department. It connects the businesses of all specialized subsidiary companies together and makes them to bring into play their predominance and to cooperate with each other. Each of my classmates and I were distributed to different subsidiary companies. I got the honor to practice in Beijing International Information Park(BIIP), which is responsible for the development of high-tech parks and international cooperation.

Upon my arriving at CIIC, we accepted the on-the-job trainings just as formal employees. The Human Resource Department of the group organized us to watch slides. These slides not only enable us to know the development history and achievements of the group, but also make me understand the operation model of the real estate companies in China mainland.

On my first day in BIIP, colleagues in every department greeted me warmly. They told me the location of the dressing room, the dinning hall and so forth. Thus, my strangeness was disappeared soon. Meanwhile, I accepted the on-the-job training that specially targets at the information park for again. These trainings reflect the special attention and carefulness of both the group and its subsidiary companies towards the employees.

The Domestic Business Department, to which I was assigned, is responsible for the business attraction and sales of high-tech parks as well as the maintenance of relating customer channels. Although I have been worked in the department for only one month, all my colleagues, whatever the sales executive, departmental manager or the fellows, all treated my like a real newcomer. They let me to take part in their daily work, such as morning meeting, customer visiting, business negotiation and material collection for analytical report, from which I have learnt a lot.

In my spare time, my fellows in BIIP also make me to enjoy the vigorous and colorful life of youth people. They chatted with me about city, culture and various interesting news of Beijing. We went to the restaurant in a large group to taste various snacks with Beijing characteristics, chafing dish and other delicacies. Thus, I got an opportunity to enjoy the splendid culture of China mainland from different angles. The most exciting thing was that I also learnt many authentic Beijing dialects from my colleagues. When I return to Hong Kong, I will show these to my friends in Hong Kong.

During my practice, I happen to meet the Dragon Boat Festival in Beijing. When colleagues in BIIP put some delicious pyramid-shaped dumplings in front of me, I realized that I have already had strong sense of belonging to this team.

Unforgettable days passed away soon, my company held a warm farewell party for us. At the part, I took group photos with my colleagues and leaving telephone numbers to each other. It is fortunate to know people and things here.

Upon my leaving, I want to tell everybody sincerely: "Wish you smooth and happy in you future work. I am looking forward to meeting with you again. Thanks a lot!"
